Prof. Charmaine Gauci addressed an online press conference on the latest COVID-19 cases in Malta and Gozo.
8 new cases were confirmed and 17 more people have recovered form coronavirus.

Prof. Gauci appealed to the public for co-operation to avoid having more coronavirus cases.
She also said that it is unfortunate that when they have to announce good news, such as a low number of cases, people start ignoring the measures against the virus.
Prof. Gauci said that the situation is under control although authorities are following all developments.
Regarding the measure of social distancing, Prof. Gauci said that this measure needs to remain in place as it has proven to be ideal to avoid contracting the virus. She explained that in countries were schools reopened the social distancing was being enforced.
Regarding the possibility to relax some of the measures, Prof. Gauci said we cannot expect to return back to normality any time soon since there is no vaccine available yet.
The Superintendent for Public Health said that if someone has already got tested it does not mean the person could not have contracted the virus at a later stage.
Prof. Gauci explained that the aim of the testing is to trace the people who are symptomatic. She said that tests are also being carried out on people who are not feeling any symptoms related to COVID-19.

This means that the number of active cases stands at 151.
17 more people have recovered from coronavirus. The total number of recovered cases amounts to 303.
A total of 48 positive cases were confirmed amongst the Hal Far open centre.
