Probation for man who admitted domestic violence related charges

A 35-year-old man was placed under probation after he admitted to charges of domestic violence.

The British national who resides in Gżira was accused of causing his wife and children to fear violence. The accused who cannot be named by court order was accused of damaging an internal door and of threatening the police in the course of their duty.

Prosecuting office Police Inspector Jonathan Ransley requested a treatment for the accused and a protection order for the victim.

The court was informed that the man has an alcohol problem.

Magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo placed the man under a probation order of three years in order to address his alcohol problem. He was also fined €800. The man was prohibited from speaking to his wife while custody arrangements are to be made through his probation officer.

Legal aid lawyer Graziella Tanti appeared for the accused.
