Prince Harry had “no other option but to step back” from the Royal Family.

The Duke of Sussex shocked the world when he announced that he and his wife, the Duchess of Sussex, were to step down as “senior” members of the Royal Family and he has now broken his silence on the matter after it was revealed him and Duchess Meghan would be giving up their HRH titles and stepping back from royal duties.

Speaking to supporters of the charity Sentebale at a dinner in London, the Duke of Sussex said: “Before I begin, I must say I can only imagine what you may have heard and perhaps read over the past few weeks.

“So I want you to hear the truth from me as much as I can share, not as a prince or a duke but as Harry, the same person who many of you have watched grow up over the last 35 years but now with a clearer perspective.

“The UK is my home and a place that I love, that will never change. I have grown up feeling supported by so many of you and I watched as you welcomed Meghan with open arms as you saw me find the love and happiness that I had hoped for all my life.

“It brings me great sadness that it has come to this,” said Harry. He said the decision to step back had followed months of talks and had not been a decision he had come to lightly. They were not walking away, he explained.

“As far as this goes, there really was no other option,” he added.

Meanwhile Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s new arrangements are set to be reviewed in 12 months’ time.

The loved-up couple – who have an eight-month-old son called Archie – have decided to step back from the royal family, but their new dynamic is expected to be reviewed in early 2021, according to People magazine.

The review of the new approach is likely to include Queen Elizabeth, Prince Charles, Prince William and Prince Harry, all of whom attended a recent summit to discuss the issue at Sandringham.

At the same time, Thomas Markle has accused his daughter of “cheapening” the royal family.

The 75-year-old director of photography has spoken out about Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s decision to quit as members of the royal family, saying the loved-up couple are “turning into lost souls”.

Speaking to Channel 5 in a new TV documentary, he explained: “They are turning it [the royal family] into a Walmart with a crown on.”

Thomas described the royal family as “one of the greatest long-living institutions ever”.
