The Malta Competition and Consumer Affairs Authority said that price fixing agreements are illegal under the Competition Act. The Authority was referring to a number of reports which appeared in the media that stated that there was an agreement between a number of cheesecake producers to increase the price by 33%.
In its statement the Authority said that such a practice would amount to a serious infringement of the Competition Act.
The Authority said that each producer should determine the pricing at which they sell their products independently from other producers.
