President George Vella held a meeting with Charles, Prince of Wales earlier today ahead of a meeting with Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday.
The meeting was held at Clarence House, Charles’ official residence.
In a statement, the Office of the President said that during the meeting, President Vella and Prince Charles focused on Commonwealth issues, with a particular focus on the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting which will take place in Rwanda later this year. They also exchanged views on the current state of the global environment.
The President, who described the meeting as a cordial one, also informed the Prince of Wales of the latest developments concerning Villa Guardamangia, in which Queen Elizabeth II – and an infant Prince Charles – lived in between 1949 and 1951. The house was recently acquired by the government, with the aim of restoring it and turning it into a tourism destination.
