President Emeritus Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca and Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi have signed the petition requesting the government not to send away 22 non-Maltese children. The petition was started by following media reports that due to a stringent policy, these children were going to be expelled from Malta.

The President Emeritus and the Auxiliary Bishop are but two of the swiftly swelling ranks of people who are subscribing to this petition. MPs and MEPs, too, have, in the few hours it has been up, signed the petition, which, at the time of publication has reached the 2,500mark. Notable names include Roberta Metsola MEP, Colin Calleja Dean of the Faculty of Education, Therese Comodini Cachia MP, Andrew Azzopardi Dean of the Faculty for social well-being and Vickie Ann Cremona former Ambassador.
