The Premier and First Division matches have been suspended with immediate effect after a player of Neptunes WPSC tested for coronavirus, the Aquatic Sports Association of Malta said in a letter to its council members and clubs, on Monday.

The Executive Committee suspended all competitions in order to assess and address the situation in the most appropriate way forward.

The association will investigate the timeline of events in order to understand the situation.

It appears that the player who tested positive had a swab test before the game between Neptunes and Sliema held on Sunday evening. The player did not go into isolation.

“All the Executive Committee’s rights in terms of ASA rules as well as the laws of Malta, against the player and Neptunes Water Polo Club, are hereby being reserved,” the letter reads.

The committee will be making further considerations about the case in the next 48 hours.
