Pope Francis has appointed Rev Prof Hector Scerri, Ecclesiastical Assistant of Aid to the Church in Need in Malta (ACN), as a Consultant of the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity for the coming five years.
ACN has congratulated Rev Prof Scerri, which described that while this is an honour and a service to the Universal Church, it is also an honour to the Archdiocese of Malta.
He will be in charge of matters related to the Ecumenical Dialogue between various Churches and Christian traditions.
This news was met by joy and support from several parishes across the islands. Among them, the Holy Trinity Parish of Marsa welcomed the appointment and remarked that it was not the first time Rev Prof Hector Scerri was in the Parish Church conducting functions.
In 2018, Archbishop Charles Scicluna renewed the Ecumenic Diocese Commission by appointing new members, where Prof Hector Scerri took the role of President of the Commission.
