Police now have access to Transport Malta cameras

The Police will now have a more regulated and efficient access to footage from the 60 Transport Malta cameras around Malta and Gozo.

This arrangement forms part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that was signed between the Malta Police Force and Transport Malta. Signatories to the MoU were Police Commissioner Lawrence Cutajar and Transport Malta Chairman Joseph Bugeja.

According to a press release, this agreement will formalise and regulate the relationship between the two entities, whilst ensuring that privacy is protected according to legal parameters.

Present to the signing were also Minster for Home Affairs and National Security Michael Farrugia and Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg.

Minister Bog said that the possibility of an additional 250 cameras around our territory is being explored. All these cameras will be accessible by the Police.

From his end, Minister Farrugia added that one has to keep up with technological advancements as criminality is becoming more sophisticated.
