The Police were asked to take action against the owner of the karozzin horse that collapsed and died on the 8th August in Floriana. Pressure group Animal Liberation Malta had said that they were disgusted by the incident.
The Animal Welfare Directorate within the Environment Ministry said that a police complaint was filed in order to start criminal proceedings against the owner. The necropsy showed that a combination of factors which included excessive heat, heavy load and the steep route had contributed to the horse’s death.
Both the Environment Minister Jose Herrera and Parliamentary Secretary for Animal Welfare Clint Camilleri said that abuse on animals would not be tolerated.
