The Opposition has requested for the Auditor General to start an investigation on the building extension of t. Vincent De Paul Residence, through the three members of the Public Accounts Committee, Beppe Fenech Adami, Kristy Debono and Claudio Grech. In the meantime, Partit Demokratiku registered a formal complaint in order to open an investigation about this same issue.
According to Partit Nazzjonalista, this should clear and stabilize the process of the extension of St Vincent’s residence since a few articles in the media reported that €274 million were given as a direct order from the Ministry for the Family for an extension of 500 beds.
Partit Nazzjonalista said that the Department of Information (DOI) that countered comments made by the Parliamentary Secretary, Anthony Agius Decelis who said that the notice which appeared in the newspaper by the DOI was wrong. The Department of Information stated that the information published was submitted by the ministries and public entities.
Partit Demokratiku (PD) said that the Government is not acting transparently with the money collected from taxes and the sale of the assets of the people. PD also said that seniors should have every opportunity to live a dignified life in their homes and that the money spent on residential buildings centralizing this type of treatment in one area, could be used for any small residential homes in Malta for elderly people to remain in an environment they are used to.
