The PN is recommending that Local Councils cancel all their activities open to the public and that they should urge their localities’ NGOs to do the same.

In a statement Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) said that it presented a number of proposals concerning Local Councils to the Minister for Local Government Josè Herrera. The PN asked for a meeting in order to present its proposals concerning the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The set of proposals includes recommendations on how councils should meet and that their offices should be equipped with hand sanitisers.

The PN said that the Government said that it will consider the proposals put forward by the party.

During a press conference on Monday at Castille, Prime Minister Robert Abela announced that bars, restaurants and gyms, cinemas, clubs amongst other places are to shut down as a measure to avoid the spreading of coronavirus. The Prime Minister said that this measure will come into effect as of tomorrow at midnight.
