Newsbook.com.mt has been informed that Kevin Cutajar has been approved by acclamation to take former MP David Stellini’s vacated seat in Parliament.
This news comes as the Nationalist Party’s Executive Committee met to discuss the issue of co-option of the chair of the former Gozitan MP. At around 10:30 am there was the reading of the minutes.
Support for Cutajar had been growing over the past two weeks with endorsements coming from fellow PN MPs and other representatives.
Last week the PN’s political coordinator Jean Pierre Debono was selected for the seat but withdrew his candidancy following arguments between the Executive Committee and the Gozitan Regional Committee.
This is how fellow colleagues in the Nationalist Party and across the Parliament have been responding so far…
Hearty congratulations #KevinCutajar on your co-option. Your presence in Parliament will send a strong message that no obstacle and no disability can stop people who #NeverGiveUp https://t.co/4uaQq0iffZ

Watch: “We have many fewer seats in Parliament; we need a quick decision”- Delia
The Leader of the Opposition and Nationalist Party Adrian Delia, said that the Executive Committee needs to make quick a decision on the parliamentary seat as the PN already has many fewer seats.
Delia said this in comments to the press in front of the PN Headquarters and ahead of the expected meeting. The leader explained that last week it had been impossible to be informed if anyone wants to participate to take the parliamentary seat, adding that he had been aware that Secretary Clyde Puli Party was contacting people to see if they were interested. Puli was doing this with Delia’s approval.
On the support being given to Kevin Cutajar, Delia said he recognised that there were people who had the opportunity to take that seat but decided to support someone else. He said that it is normal and he saw nothing wrong in this regard. Delia also reiterated that it is part of the democratic process that everyone is free to express their opinion.
“Discussing internal changes”
Responding to journalists, Delia said the next part on the agenda of the party will be restructuring in order to strengthen all of the internal organs of the party and ensure that they work with greater efficiency to better coordinate and deliver the PN’s message to the public.
Executive Committee meeting
The PN Executive Committee is currently in progress over deciding the issue of co-option of former MP David Stellini’s Gozo seat. At around 10:30 am there was the reading of the minutes.
The Nationalist Party’s Executive Committee is meeting today to discuss the co-option of former Gozitan MP David Stellini’s seat.
In the run up to the previous vote, a number of public endorsements were made for Cutajar believing him to be the right choice for the role not only because of his representation of Gozo but also because it showed the party’s representation and accommodation of disability.
Since Debono’s withdrawal, the PN’s Secretary Clyde Puli has been calling on fellow PN candidates for the 13th district to run against Cutajar, among them Maria Portelli.
In the last hours Cutajar’s support has continued to grow among Gozitan PN candidates who contested unsuccessfully in the 13th District.
Newsbook.com.mt is also informed that the PN parliamentary group will meet on Monday in the presence of the Head of the party Adrian Delia.
