PN asks Government to publish all tunnel studies; PL responds

Tista' taqra bil- Malti.

The Opposition is appealing Government to publish all the relevant Malta-Gozo tunnel studies, and to stop taking decisions blindly without a long-run vision.

In a statement, Partit Nazzjonalista (PN) stated that it noted that the Association for Gozitan Employees in Malta requested that all tunnel studies are published. PN stated that it too has been insisting on this action.

PN explained that it has already brought forward several amendments on this project to Government. It had also insisted the importance that the project undergoes an Environmental Impact Assessment as well as a Strategic Environment Assessment, together with a study considering the possibility of an alternate transport system.

The Party insisted that this would contrast with what is already being reported in the media, as several agencies have announced that the first tenders will be published later this year. Partit Nazzjonalista stated that Government needs to stop being hard headed and instead concentrate on the public’s pleas of various organisations, including that of the Gozitan Tourism Authority (GTA).

In its response, Partit Laburista (PL) said that PN needs to once and for all decide where it stands when it comes to the Malta-Gozo tunnel project, as currently, it is simply trying to please everyone. The Party also asked PN to stop making ridiculous excuses.

In a statement, Partit Laburista advised the public that the published studies can be found on Transport Malta’s website.
