Prime Minister and Partit Laburista leader Joseph Muscat described the symbolic gesture made by Archbishop Charles J Scicluna on Saturday as “an act of courage”.

Mgr. Scicluna blessed the tombs of Partit Laburista militants that died in the sixties and are buried at the Addolorata Cemetery.

Muscat was talking at a political activity in Nadur on Sunday. He said that the Archbishop’s act continues on the various public apologies made by Archbishop Mercieca in the 90s.

The Prime Minister said that though the wound will never heal, Mgr. Scicluna’s gesture was significant. Muscat thanked the Archbishop for blessing the tombs of Ġużè Ellul Mercer and Lisa Żammit amongst others.

People are right to be angry at Planning Authority

The Qala development permit issued by the Planning Authority was another topic which Muscat chose to discuss. He said that people have a right to be angry at the decision taken by the Planning Authority.

Muscat said that policy ruled over the decision taken. He added that the regulatory authorities should consider cultural and moral sensitivities and not just go by an incorrect procedure.

Muscat is defending those destroying the environment – PN

Partit Nazzjonalista said that the Prime Minister defended the members sitting on the Planning Authority Board that voted in favour of the Qala development.

The Opposition is refusing to be part of a Planning Authority which is only there to serve those at or close to the core of Partit Laburista.

In light of all this, PN MP Marthese Portelli has resigned from her role as the Opposition’s representative sitting on the Planning Authority’s Board.
