The Marian Year within the Gozo Diocese has officially come to an end on the eve of the feast of Santa Marija during the vigil of the Easter of the Assumption that took place in front of the Ta’ Pinu National Sanctuary.
A press release issued by the Diocese explained that the first part of the vigil was led by the newly appointed Bishop of the Prelate of Santiago Apóstol de Huancané in Peru, Giovanni Cefai mssp. Upon Bishop Cefai’s arrival, Dun Gerard Buhagiar, the rector at the Ta’ Pinu Sanctuary, placed the mitre on Bishop Cefai’s head against a background of the Marian year hymn that was sung by the Diocese Youth Choir.
The celebration continued with mass that was led by Bishop Mario Grech. A number of Gozitan chaplains and priest assisted. In his homily, Bishop Grech touched on his wish on seeing continuous devotion towards teh Virgin Mary. According to the Bishop such devotion will lead to the creation of a mystical church that united belief with everyday life.
At the end of the celebration, a vestment depicting the image of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu was given out to each parish as a token of remembrance.
The Marian year was officially opened on the feast of Kristu Re back on the 25th of November 2018. The initiatives tied to the Marian year will continue at a pastoral level as a replica of the image of Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu is being transferred around various parishes in Malta.
