“Miriam is a victim of injustice” – Archbishop Scicluna

The funeral of Miriam Pace is being held this afternoon at the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Valletta. Archbishop Charles Scicluna is celebrating the mass.

In his homily, Archbishop Scicluna said that unfortunately, Miriam is a victim of injustice. The Archbishop also said that after this tragedy we are all demanding for justice and the truth but not revenge.

The Archbishop thanked all those who are currently giving their support to the Pace family.

He also mentioned the authorities and expressed his support for their work and hoped they will take the necessary action so the family can feel supported and so that justice prevails.

Archbishop Scicluna also said that the people’s only request is to feel safe in their homes. We are not demanding much from the authorities, said the Archbishop.

On Monday, the body of Miriam Pace was found under the debris of her house that collapsed due to ongoing excavation works on an adjacent site in Ħamrun. The search and rescue operation took more than eight hours. The body was located around 10 pm and extracted from under the debris half an hour later.

Relatives and friends were amongst those who attended Miriam’s funeral. People who did not know Miriam or family Pace gathered outside the church to express their solidarity with the family.

Both Prime Minister Robert Abela and the Opposition leader Adrian Delia and a number of parliamentary members attended Miriam Pace’s funeral.
