The Customs Department said that the the biggest drug find ever recorded happened after scanning apparatus clearly indicated that there was an inconsistency in content in after in two out of four counterfeiters.
In a press release, the department said that activity in relation to the case has ended following two days and two nights of work. The department can confirm that this drug find amounted to 10,729.40 kilograms of cannabis resin which, in the market, amounts to €28.5 million.
According to the customs department, the first container declared to contain buckets of detergent liquid was opened, and 28,436 packets of cannabis resin were found. In all, these amounted to 5,687.2 kilograms.
In the second searched container, which was also declared to contain buckets of detergent liquid, 28,436 packets of cannabis resin were found. These weighed a total of 5,042.2 kilograms.
According to the Customs Department, “These two containers, in fact, provided clear images in the scanner that the material contained within most probably consisted in drug content, leading to a physical examination that actually confirmed the suspicion indicated by the scanner”
