Archbishop Charles J Scicluna said that this anniversary has been marked important events in our nation’s history that have exemplified the presence of God within us during testing episodes.
Mgr Scicluna said this during his homily on the occasion of the feast of the birth of Our Lady (Marija Bambina).
The Archbishop mentioned the Great Siege of 1565 and the Italian defeat in the Grand Harbour back in 1943. God has remained omnipresent with us since we were introduced to him by St Paul. God, our Saviour has become not just present but integrated within us.
He added that during these two dates in history; we were confronted by physical enemies. Nowadays, we are faced with yet more great challenges, and elaborated that the challenges that we are facing today take away our dignity and identity.
Mgr. Scicluna stressed that the belief that there is life from conception is not a religious issue but a scientific one.
The Archbishop said that we are celebrating the birth of Our Lady after we have celebrated her conception nine month ago (8th of December), and that her birth is revered because she gave birth to God our saviour.
He reckons that with the birth of this child, Our Lady, the Mother of God, we are celebrating a loving God that does not judge our defects, sins and insufficiencies. We are celebrating a God that helps us by becoming one of us.
