Cardinal Mario Grech presided over a concelebrated Mass on the altar in St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican on Monday.
The assembly consisted of lay people, sisters and priests from Malta and Gozo.
During his homily, Cardinal Grech spoke about the call and mission of Apostle Andrew by Jesus.
At the end of the Mass, Cardinal Grech urged the faithful to pray with the intercession of Our Lady for Malta and Gozo, especially for unity in the current situation.
The former Bishop of Gozo and the Secretary General of the Synod of Bishops was elevated to cardinal by Pope Francis on Saturday, alongside other twelve clerics.
On Saturday, Cardinal Grech addressed the Papal consistory telling those present to not let anyone steal their hope in the context of the current global pandemic.
These challenging times give us an opportunity to rethink our lifestyles, our relationships with one another and the organisation of our society, and above all give us the opportunity to rethink the meaning we give to our lives, Cardinal Grech told those gathered on Saturday.
