More than 550 people celebrated Christmas at the Caritas Christmas day lunch organised by the NGO for those who would have spent Christmas alone. The Christmas lunch was held at the Archbishop’s Curia and among those who have attended were children with their guardians or parents. Last year around 400 people attend the meal.
The Caritas Christmas Day lunch is for those who would be otherwise spending Christmas day alone. This year was the fourth edition allowing people to, even if at least for one day, experience the unity of family.
Many authorities visited the lunch including President Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, former President George Abela, Nuncio to Malta Alessandro D’Errico, Archbishop Charles Scicluna, Auxiliary Bishop Joseph Galea-Curmi, and Opposition Leader Adrian Delia.
Caritas Director Anthony Gatt had told Newsbook.com.mt that his wish was that no one would turn up to the lunch. Archbishop Charles Scicluna had said that while loneliness cannot be completely eliminated, it was beneficial for people to feel loved and cherished within one’s community during the festive period.
