From its last visit to Malta in 2018, the US navy ship Mount Whitney (LCC 20) arrived on Malta’s Grand Harbour on February 9th and will sail back at sea tomorrow morning.

Mount Whitney is one of two Blue Ridge-class amphibious command ships of the United States Navy and is the flagship and command ship of the United States Sixth Fleet. The ship also serves as the Afloat Command Platform of Naval Striking and Support Forces NATO.

Mount Whitney has a crew of over 300 personnel. The ship is also the first in the US Navy which accommodates females on board on a permanent basis. The current commanding officer is Captain Cassidy Norman.

While in Malta, members of the crew will enjoy some rest and get the chance to visit cultural and historical sites. The crew volunteered to participate in community relations projects that support Malta’s local communities.
