Parliamentary Secretariat for Persons with Disability and Active Ageing in collaboration with the Active Ageing Unit organised a meal for some 80 elderly persons who are lonely and that reside at St Vincent De Paul long term care facility.
The idea behind the meal originated following a visit by the Parliamentary Secretary for Active Ageing Anthony Agius Decelis where he discovered that a substantial amount of residents did not have any visitors. Agius Decelis explained that his Secretariat tries to help out the residents and offer a family-like environment especially during the festive season.
The Parliamentary Secretary stated that the activity will continue to be organised annually and other initiatives will be rolled out in the future. He explained that such activities aim at having more inclusion of elderly persons within our society and promote active ageing.
