Partit Demokratiku has stressed that the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia “remains an open wound in our country.” PD said that this is due not only because of the handling of its aftermath by both the Labour Party and the Nationalist Party, but primarily due to the deeply divided political climate they have fostered and continue to promote.

In a press release, PD insisted that it believes that a political climate in Malta can be recreated, within which it would once again become inconceivable that an investigative journalist like Daphne Caruana Galizia is not only denied protection, but ultimately assassinated.

PD said that it believes that it can restore the credibility, competence and freedom from political interference of Malta’s Law and Order, as well as provide full independence to Malta’s judiciary, as has been recommended by the Venice Commission.
