PD questions cultural watchdog’s priorities

Partit Demokratiku criticised the Superintendence of Cultural Heritage, as appearing to “regularly favour construction over heritage”, in a statement on Thursday.

According to PD, destroyed archaeological remains at Santa Luċija had the cultural watchdog’s blessing. The archaeological remains were unearthed during excavations works for a new underpass in Santa Luċija.

‘Uncovered archaeological remains which have until now survived for thousands of years were deemed unimportant in comparison to an infrastructure project which will be yet another monument to cars,’ PD argued.

PD questioned the Superintedence’s priorities, as it urged the government to adpat the infrastructure project so as not to further ruin any pre-historic heritage.
