Partit Demokratiku is against the Government’s belief that a tunnel permanently linking Malta and Gozo is the solution to all of Gozo’s problems.
In a press release issued on Sunday, Partit Demokratiku stated that in Malta one cannot just implement a transport system without first addressing the limited land at hand due to Malta’s size. A tunnel would improve connectivity however it also has a long list of downsides such as a severe environmental impact but also mark the end of Gozo as we know it.
Partit Demojkratiku believes that a fast ferry passenger service connecting Mgarr Gozo, St Paul’s Bay, Sliema, Valletta and Kalkara with dedicated connections via an ACES service (automated, connected, electrical, chaired) towards Bugibba, St Julian’s and Smart City is the realistic solution. It will reduce travel time by at least 50% and will necessitate an overhaul of the Gozo Channel service
Partit Demokratiku also state that it is for a level playing field of opportunities for Gozitans and Maltese alike and also believes that the invigoration of the Gozo economy could only happen by safeguarding and enhancing the many positives that Gozo possesses.
