Parliament will discuss a law presented by the Opposition to provide protection to those who encounter someone who needs immediate assistance and help them without fear of any consequences.
This law will introduce the concept known as the Good Samaritan, Nationalist spokesman for Social Policy Claudio Grech says. It will provide protection from criminal prosecution and civil liability to the person who gives genuine aid to another person who has a clear and imminent danger. Moreover, the person giving assistance can request payment for any damages suffered if the accident is caused by an action of the person who was in danger in the first place.
He said the Opposition discussed this law with a number of organisations that are directly involved in providing first aid or have their jobs bring them face to face with risky situations.
This bill will be discussed next Wednesday, when the second reading of the proposed bill takes place in Parliament.
