Excavation and demolition work will not be allowed between 1 July and 30 September in tourist areas.
The Planning Authority said that it was taking into account the nuisance and inconvenience that construction sites have on the surrounding neighborhood. The tourist areas have been designated by the Malta Tourism Authority.
Due to the outbreak of the coronavirus in Malta, all demolition and excavation works being carried out in tourist areas were authorised to continue between 15 and 30 June.
The Planning Authority maintained that several Maltese families would move to their summer residences, and that by enforcing a legal notice, it would contribute to the mitigation of the nuisance caused by construction sites and which affect both such families and the tourism industry.
“The demolition and excavation phases at a construction site are by far the greatest inconvenience for the surrounding neighborhood.”
The public may report any illegal works in the identified localities and streets by calling the authority on 2290 0000. The MTA has identified all the localities and streets where demolition or excavation works cannot be carried out. The list is subject to change.
