Over €81,000 given to local councils to maintain high standard infrastructures projects

Over €81,000 (€81,427) has been allocated to various local councils to maintain major infrastructure projects set up by the government since 2017. The localities applicable were Imdina, Siġġiewi, Paola, and San Lawrenz.

Minister for Local Government Owen Bonnici said that these types of initiatives are the tools necessary for local councils to invest and keep a high standard in each and every locality. Bonnici added that providing a high quality of living for residents has always been part of the long term strategy, and this shows through projects such as this.

This allocation of funds was originally announced during last year’s budget. Parliamentary Secretary for Local Council Silvio Parnis mentioned that that the last budget provided €53 million worth of funds towards local government, while regional councils were given €3.15 million.

An additional €28 million under the development planning fund are to be used for the improvement of welfare in localities.
