Project Opportunity Knocks has been launched and will operate from new offices in Paola. The project, managed by the Foundation for Social Welfare Services will cater for vulnerable persons in our society.
During a press conference on the new premises, Minister for the Family, Children’s Rights and Social Solidarity Michael Falzon said that this project is aiming to take care of 500 young and vulnerable persons, with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals and a prevention campaign that will reach a widen amount of persons.
The Minister added that the end result is to provide a safe and healthy environment, which will also incorporate residential housing to ten young persons as well as equip around 50 youths with skill sets that will provide useful for gainful employment.
FSWS Chief Executive Alfred Grixti said that the Opportunity Knocks project will help provide for tailor-made solutions for every young person and that they will also be provided will financial assistance as an incentive to continue to better themselves in life.
Parliamentary Secretary for EU Funds and Social Dialogue Aaron Farrugia added that in the coming months EU head of states will be setting up a common agenda that will provide for a more inclusive, and a stronger socially protectionist Europe.
The project comes at a cost of €941,176 which is EU funded.
