Hundreds of swans, geese and crows were caught in the water after a spill from a tanker which crashed in a pier in the port of Rotterdam, the Netherlands.

The tanker’s hull was thorn, which led to 220 tons of oil to spill into the harbour. Officials went on the spot and tried to keep the oil from spilling.

The rescue workers were shocked upon seeing the large number of birds that were contaminated because of this incident.

Many volunteers went on site to help clean and save these birds.

At least 800 birds were contaminated within a 10km range, and hundreds are said to have been captured in the water.
