Malta Freeport Terminals said that there has been a leakage of oil in the terminal after an accident involving a container.

This evening the company is deploying a temporary protective boom outside Birżebbuġa’s Pretty Bay as a precautionary measure to protect bathers after a container was damaged and leaked crude corn oil into the terminal’s basin.

Yesterday, Partit Demokratiku (PD) said that a person reported an oil spill near the Freeport.

A spokesperson for the Freeport said that the oil did not enter the swimming zone and it was safe to swim.
