‘O positive’ Blood Reserves dangerously low – NBTS

The National Blood Transfusion of Maltese Service (NBTS) has reported that in the last hours blood reserves of ‘O positive’ have “fallen sharply”.

In a statement, the NBTS said that they are appealing for blood donations of ‘O positive’ as soon as possible. The service reminds donors that donations can be made today until 6PM at the Blood Donation Centre in Gwardamangia. Those who can’t today, will be able to go tomorrow or Sunday.

Maltese people are predominantly ‘A Positive’ with the second most common blood type being ‘O Positive’. People with the latter blood type are able to give blood to people with O +, A +, B + and AB +.
