Labour Party Member of Parliament (MP) Glenn Bedingfield denied reports of high-ranking government officials being found positive for Covid-19.

Reports in the media said that high-ranking government officials tested positive following the announcement of the budget on Monday. However, Bedingfield denied these reports, saying that the issue was brought to his attention. He assured that no parliamentary member had tested positive after the budget.

PN MP Robert Cutajar asked the Speaker of the House about these reports. The Speaker responded that he is in contact with the health authorities regularly, and that he has not been informed of anything of the sort. At this point MP Bedingfield interjected with his assertion.

Recently, two Ministers for Foreign Affairs tested positive for coronavirus, a few days after they attended the EU meeting of the Council of Ministers in Luxembourg. The two Ministers are Belgium’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Sophie Wilmès and Austria’s Foreign Minister, Alexander Schallenberg.
