New WiFi system inaugurated at Dar tal-Providenza

A new WiFi system has been inaugurated at Dar tal-Providenza.

In a joint statement, the Office of the President and the Parliamentary Secretariat for Digital Economy said that a new WiFi system to be used by members of staff and residents at Dar tal-Providenza has been installed.

President George Vella inaugurated the new system on Tuesday. In his address, President Vella praised the idea behind the project and said that visitors, members of staff as well as residents will be able to make use of WiFi.

Over €100,000 were invested in this project by MITA and saw more than 200 employees working on it. MITA employees worked voluntarily on the project and installed WiFi in 11 blocks. More than 10km of data cables, 400 internet points and 60 WiFi access points were installed.

MITA employees contributed to more than 2,000 hours in voluntary work.

Mgr Charles Cordina and Dar tal-Providenza Director Fr Martin Micallef were present for the inauguration. Fr Micallef thanked MITA and the government.

During the annual telethon held on 1 January, €1,275,442 were collected in funds for Dar tal-Providenza.
