The Ministry for Education declared that 60,000 students started a new scholastic year on Wednesday.
8,731 pupils will be attending kindergarten, 25,860 will be attending primary school and 20,939 are attending middle and secondary school. 5,574 teachers, 3,528 learning assistants (LSAs) and 709 kindergarten assistants will be supporting these pupils.
The Ministry also stated that the half-yearly examinations will no longer take place for years four till eight and there will be an increase in year-round assessments. This scholastic year will also mark the start of the first Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees and an increase in the variety of courses offered by the faculty of Education within the University of Malta.
MATSEC exams will be free of charge.
