The Swatar Parish will be unveiling the titular statue of the first Maltese Saint, George Preca, on the 22nd of September. This will be happening in Pjazza l-Eroj.
The statue commemorates the first procession with Baby Jesus that was held on 24th December in 1921, by St George Preca. St. George’s statue will be holding the a copy of the Baby Jesus he had been holding on that historic day. The baby was sculpted by Alfred Camilleri Cauchi, while the statue itself was sculpted with the help of his son, Aaron Camilleri Cauchi.
Archbishop Charles Scicluna will be celebrating a Mass on Sunday 23rd September, at 6.30pm, wherein he will place the Baby Jesus in Saint George Preca’s arms for the first time, as well as bless the statues.
