New music video by Berne features the plight of migrants

London-based duo Berne have just released their music video for ‘Oceans’,which was a response to the diplomatic stand-off among European leaders over the fate of 32 migrants who were left aboard The Sea Watch 3 for 18 days in December 2018

The song expresses the struggle to understand why people are threatened by diversity and criticises societies for only protecting and providing for their own. It is driven by dramatic vocal lines an earthy drums – think Joy Division meets The xx meets Kate Bush.

Berne merges the ethereal vocals of Deborah Borg Brincat and the dreamy soundscapes of Gianluca Pulvirenti into emotive reverb-laden alt-pop songs. Combining wistful lyrics concerning inconsistencies in society and the environment with dark melodies and haunting sound layers, Berne create intriguing sonic atmospheres. The pair previously worked together as members of an award-winning indie band in their home country of Malta and reconnected as Berne in 2019.
