Neighbours will be refunded for reports into adjacent construction sites

Tista' taqra bil- Malti.

Neighbours living adjacent to a construction site will now be able to have a professional report drawn up on the method statement and on the state of their property before the commencement of any adjacent project. The MDA developer member will be obliged to refund all the architect fees upon the presentation of a fiscal receipt.

The Malta Developers Association (MDA) announced this, stating that they’re terming this the ‘Safer Neighbourhood Scheme’.

In a press release, it was detailed that in those cases where a third party cannot afford to pay the architect’s fee, the developer will hand to the third party the amount to be paid to the architect, upon the presentation of a fiscal invoice by the third party.

MDA President Sandro Chetcuti explained that those members or their companies who do not make payment upon the presentation of receipts or invoices by third parties will be inserted on a public blacklist by the MDA. MDA Director General Marthese Portelli urged non-MDA develop members to follow suit and adopt this initiative too.

This is the first initiative under the ‘Safer Neighbourhood Scheme’ and the MDA Council stated that it will be coming up with more initiatives over the next months to protect both its members and the public.
