The double murder of a mother and daughter from Ħal Għaxaq, allegedly by the son and brother of the victim, has left many people in shock.
Today’s reports say that neighbours of the victims and suspect are particularly surprised by news of the crime given that the suspect is described by them to be a good natured private person.
Speaking with the Times of Malta, neighbours described the family positively but that with these circumstances, it is not always possible to gauge people especially in light of the past actions of the father.
The father, Paul Bonnici, killed two people in 2000. He was later charged in 2005 and is now serving a 31 year prison sentence.
The two women, who were 70 and 29 years old respectively, were found dead in a field at Ħal Għaxaq in the early hours of Saturday, after police spent long hours questioning family relatives.
During his interrogation, the 39 year old son Joseph Bonnici confessed to the double murder.
According to sources speaking to TVM, the suspect said he killed his mother because she encouraged his father to carry out the murder of their two neighbours 19 years ago.
The TVM report also says that Bonnici alleged that his sister had been threatening to out being raped by him when she was younger, which, according to him, is a lie.
Further reports say that the victims were killed with a firearm and were later taken to the field.
The accused is expected to appear before the magistrate Caroline Farrugia Frendo today.
