Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne said that Malta was taking the necessary precautions to prevent measles from spreading. Fearne said that 90,000 people died of measles in Europe during a press conference where he announced that the nurses would be getting free MMR (measles, mumps and rubella) vaccinations.

The Health Minister spoke of the serious consequences associated with measles which might lead to death. Fearne also debunked the theory that vaccinations cause autism saying that various scientific studies exist in this regard.
