Nearly 2000 Maltese people diagnosed with cancer each year – MEP

Nearly 2,000 new cases of cancer are diagnosed annually, along with around 900 reported deaths each year, Maltese MEP Francis Zammit Dimech has said.

Dimech raised the figures during his speech thanking the Maltese President for her support in bringing together the Maltese National Cancer Platform with the Association of European Cancer Leages (ECL).

The MEP also reaffirmed his support and assistance for Malta’s Cancer NGOs like Hospice Malta and Action for Breast Cancer Foundation, by bringing their knowledge to shape the EU level response to cancer.

‘Maltese cancer NGOs play a role in providing important services to cancer patients and their families during and after their illness. This is why it is crucial to empower them and provide them with more opportunities to keep on offering a high quality support.’, he said.
