NBTS encourages people to donate blood during holidays

The National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) is encouraging the public to donate blood for the Feast of the Assumption of Saint Mary, since there is a low blood reserve.

The NBTS has stated that while this feast usually brings relaxation and pleasure for most workers as they receive time off, hospitals and illnesses do not enjoy this luxury.

While wishing the public a pleasurable holiday, the NBTS is appealing for the public to contribute and donate blood. It added that this will help the service strive towards its goal; to ensure that no patient has to wait to receive blood, and that health services continue to be efficient and quick.

One can donate blood in the following locations:

  • At the Blood Donation Centre in Gwardamanġa, which is open every day (including public holidays) from 8.00am till 6.00pm.
  • At the Xewkija Berġa in Gozo, which on Tuesday 13th August will be available from 1.00pm till 5.00pm; and on Sunday 18th August from 8.00am till 1.00pm.
  • At the mobile blood donation unit, which from 8.30am till 1.00pm will be stationed next to Imġarr’s Parish Church on Wednesday 15th August, and Qawra’s Parish Church on Sunday 18th

Donors are advised to stay hydrated before visiting the donation centres, and to take an identification card, driver’s license or passport with them.
