The Malta Union of Teachers, MUT shall be meeting the Minister for Education Owen Bonnici to discuss the proposed opening of Skolasajf.
In a statement issued on Wednesday MUT said that the meeting will be held this week and during the meeting, the union shall voice its concerns to ensure hygiene and social distancing, and thus the well-being of educators and students.
The MUT said that although schools have an obligation for risk assessment to be in place, it is requesting that, given the present COVID-19 situation, a fresh risk assessment is carried out for all schools which shall serve as Skolasajf centres.
The union is also requesting the introduction of an inspectorate, which shall determine whether centres can be opened in accordance with the established criteria as outlined in the new risk assessment document. This inspectorate should also have the powers to close centres which do not meet the requested criteria, said MUT.
