MUT still sceptical about MCAST Ombudsman

The Malta Union of Teachers (MUT) is objecting to the “rushed decision” from MCAST’s leadership to set up an MCAST Ombudsman office within the educational facility.

The Union said this decision raises several questions, especially if this structure is run according to MCAST legislation together with the Ombudsman’s National Office, in which an Ombudsman for Education already exists.

In their statement, MUT questioned if the MCAST Ombudsman possesses the independence and autonomy the office deserves to investigate and decide on sensitive cases, since the employer of this MCAST Ombudsman is MCAST itself.

They also advised teachers not to comply with this office since it could not verify its competence.
