The Malta Union of teachers, MUT, has issued an appeal to all teachers, students and the general public to act responsibly and follow the guidelines issued by health authorities.

MUT said that this should be a joint effort to make sure that as the new scholastic year begins, if the coronavirus situation is under control, teachers and students could return to school and restore normality in their teaching and learning experience.

In a statement MUT said that it is a known fact that online teaching is an alternative but can never replace the experience in class both for educators and the students.

The union also said that directives and guidelines issued for certain workplaces cannot be implemented in schools as schools are a different kind of workplace.

The union also said that if the cases continue to increase the education sector will be negatively impacted once again.
