The Malta Union of Teachers, MUT has issued an ultimatum, until Thursday, to the government to take the necessary actions and implement new measures against the coronavirus pandemic.

In a statement issued on Monday, MUT said that it will issue a set of directives which its members are encouraged to adhere to.

MUT said it is very much concerned regarding the increasing number of COVID-19 cases being reported on a daily basis. It further explained that in view of the recent cases confirmed in a number of schools, in a matter of a few days there might be a situation where schools will not have enough educators either because of quarantine leave of because educators might contract the virus.

The union highlighted how unfortunately social distancing is not always being observed and the measures in place are not enough. MUT said that it also believes that there have been conflicting guidance by government officials.
