The council of the MUT is to hold an urgent meeting today after the discussions with the Education Ministry failed.

In a press release, MUT said that following weeks of intense discussions between the union and the Ministry, it is declaring that discussions have failed since the Ministry keeps implementing measures in schools which were not discussed with the union.

MUT said that the Ministry is ignoring the hundreds of questions it is being asked about the safety and health in schools, once they reopen on the 28th of September. It accused the Ministry of implementing measures against Covid-19 without any consideration or thought, all the while compromising the health and safety of educators, students and their families as well as the curriculum aspect.

Examples of subjects discussed which were allegedly ignored by the Ministry are the secondary school timetables, measures about educators considered as high risk and supervision.

The union stressed that there are still many questions and issues which are pending and unanswered by the Ministry. The Ministry, thus, has created great uncertainty in the education sector.
