Prime Minister Joseph Muscat flew to fly to Dubai in the afternoon, according to Lovin Malta.

This afternoon the news website had revealed that Muscat is already at the Malta International Airport awaiting to board his flight when it broke the story.

An OPM spokesperson told Newsbook.com.mt that Muscat was on a private holiday. When asked about the length of Muscat’s trip, the spokesperson refused to comment and said that in the past seven years, details of personal trips taken by the PM were never made public.

At first the OPM spokesperson neither confirmed nor denied the stor. The spokesperson insisted that all questions should be sent to them via e-mail. Local media was not made aware of Muscat’s visit.

In a tweet, Nationalist MEP David Casa said that Muscat’s flight (EK110) leaves at 2.55pm today. He also said that all journalist questions addressed to OPM with regards to the visit are not being answered.

Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne will take over the role of Acting PM while Muscat is away.

Muscat spent a night in Bethlehem. This was announced in a press release by the OPM following Muscat’s Dubai trip coming out in the media.

On the 7th of December, Muscat, his wife Michelle and other members of his family had a private meeting with the Pope himself in Rome.
