The Malta Union of Midwives and Nurses, MUMN will issue industrial directives following a lack of agreement between Steward Health Care and the Health Department to initiate the concept of Meal Allowances for MUMN Members working at the Gozo General Hospital, St. Luke’s Hospital and Karen Grech Rehabilitation Hospital.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the MUMN General Secretary, Colin Galea said that MUMN cannot accept that its members are treated as second class workers on issues where Steward Health Care are involved in.
The union said that the decision to announce industrial directives comes after a request for a meeting to find a solution was not accepted.
On Monday, MUMN is expected to hold a press conference in front of the Gozo General Hospital to further explain its position as a union.
Last year, the union had registered an industrial dispute with the Management at Mater Dei Hospital on the quality of food that is provided for the staff especially for those who have special food requirements. The union had also stated that it is not acceptable that nurses on overtime duties are being penalised when it comes to their food allowance.
